Bobby Pettiford Jr.’s reverse layup as time expired in overtime lifted No. 3 Kansas to a dramatic 69-68 win over Wisconsin on Thursday in the semifinals of the Battle 4 Atlantis at Paradise Island, Bahamas.
Pettiford’s lone shot of the game came after he corralled the rebound of Zach Clemence’s missed 3-pointer with three seconds left. Pettiford flipped the ball over his shoulder for the winning basket.
Kansas (6-0) advanced to the title game on Friday night against No. 22 Tennessee, which defeated Southern California 73-66 in overtime in the other semifinal. Wisconsin (4-1) will face the Trojans in the third-place game on Friday afternoon.
Jalen Wilson scored 29 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Jayhawks. Tyler Wahl scored 19 of his 23 points in the second half and overtime and added 10 rebounds for the Badgers.
No. 1 North Carolina 89, Portland 81
Pete Nance scored 28 points and the Tar Heels held off an upset bid by the Pilots at the Phil Knight Invitational in Portland, Ore.
The Tar Heels also got 23 points from Caleb Love and 11 points and 13 boards from Armando Bacot. Leaky Black added 11 points and nine rebounds, and R.J. Davis had 13 points — including four in the last 30 seconds.
The Pilots were led by 21 points from Moses Wood and 14 points from Alden Applewhite. Tyler Robertson added 13 points and seven assists.
No. 6 Gonzaga 102, Portland State 78
Malachi Smith scored a season-high 23 points to lead a balanced attack as the Bulldogs defeated the Vikings in the opening round of the Phil Knight Legacy tournament in Portland, Ore.
Gonzaga (4-1) will meet No. 24 Purdue in the semifinals on Friday night, while Portland State (2-3) will oppose West Virginia in the consolation bracket.
Preseason All-American Drew Timme scored 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field and grabbed six rebounds for the Bulldogs. Jorell Saterfield led the Vikings with 21 points, shooting 5 of 8 on 3-point attempts.
No. 8 Duke 54, Oregon State 51
Kyle Filipowski scored 11 of his 19 points in the last 10 minutes to help the Blue Devils pull out a victory against the Beavers in a quarterfinal game of the Phil Knight Legacy tournament in Portland, Ore.
Filipowski made only five of 13 shots from the field but grabbed 14 rebounds. Ryan Young had 11 points and 15 rebounds off the bench as Duke (5-1) won away from home for the first time under first-year coach Jon Scheyer.
Jordan Pope’s 14 points and Dexter Akanno’s 12 points led Oregon State (3-2). Duke takes on Xavier in Friday’s semifinals after the Musketeers beat Florida 90-83 on Thursday. Oregon State will meet the Gators in the consolation bracket.

Freshman Brandon Miller powered his way to 24 points and nine rebounds as the Crimson Tide defeated the Spartans in the quarterfinals of the Phil Knight Invitational at Portland, Ore.
Noah Gurley had 12 points and Noah Clowney contributed 10 points, six rebounds and three assists for Alabama (5-0), which will play No. 20 UConn in the semifinals.
Tyson Walker led Michigan State (3-2) with 21 points and A.J. Hoggard tossed in 18. Joey Hauser added nine points but also committed five turnovers.

Tristen Newton scored a season-high 23 points and the Huskies rolled to a rout of the Ducks in the quarterfinals of the Phil Knight Invitational in Portland, Ore.
Jordan Hawkins added 12 of his 18 points after halftime and hit five 3-pointers as UConn (6-0) made a school-record 17 treys on 37 attempts.
Kel’el Ware paced Oregon (2-3) with a career-high 18 points and nine rebounds off the bench. N’Faly Dante added 15 points.

Santiago Vescovi hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:45 left in overtime and the Volunteers held on for a win over the Trojans in the semifinals of the Battle 4 Atlantis at Paradise Island, Bahamas.
Julian Phillips scored a game-high 25 points, sinking 10 of 12 free throws and adding eight rebounds for Tennessee (4-1). Olivier Nkamhoua added 12 points and six rebounds, while Vescovi had seven points and five assists.
Southern California (4-2) was led by Boogie Ellis, who had 21 points, four assists and three rebounds.
No. 24 Purdue 80, West Virginia 68
Seven-foot-4 Zach Edey produced 24 points and 12 rebounds as the Boilermakers led from start to finish in beating the Mountaineers in the Phil Knight Legacy quarterfinals in Portland, Ore.
Mason Gillis posted 14 points to complement Edey’s fourth double-double in as many games for the Boilermakers (4-0), who finished 24 of 28 at the free-throw line compared to West Virginia’s 11 of 17.
Erik Stevenson paced the Mountaineers (4-1) with 17 points, while Iowa transfer Joe Toussaint added 16 points, five rebounds and four assists.
