Florida prosecutors have dropped the domestic violence charges against champion boxer Gervonta “Tank” Davis.
Davis, 30, was arrested in Miami Beach on July 11 for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend, the mother of two of his children. He was charged with misdemeanor battery.
A spokesperson with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office told the Baltimore Sun on Tuesday that the case was dismissed because the woman decided not to prosecute.
“This case was dropped as the victim is declining to prosecute per her attorney, Lindsey Chase, Esq., and her sentiments were directly confirmed by the Assistant State Attorney handling the prosecution,” spokesperson Lissette Valdes-Valle said. “The incident itself was not observed by the police officer who had been called to the scene, eliminating him as a possible witness to what had transpired.”
The unbeaten Davis (30-0-1, 28 knockouts) is the World Boxing Association lightweight champion. He is scheduled for a rematch with Lamont Roach Jr. on Saturday in Las Vegas. They fought to a draw on March 1 in New York City.
