Bernhard Langer tears Achilles tendon

Bernhard Langer, the all-time wins leader on the PGA’s Champions Tour, tore his Achilles tendon during a training session in Boca Raton, Fla., he announced Friday.

He said surgery was scheduled for Friday and that he’d be away from competitive golf for an unspecified amount of time.

“I appreciate everyone’s support during this time, and I look forward to seeing the fans and my fellow competitors back on the course soon,” he said.

The 66-year-old native of Germany won the U.S. Senior Open and the Chubb Classic in 2023 to give him 46 career Champions Tour victories, besting Hale Irwin’s 45. Since joining the tour in 2007, he has won 12 senior major tournaments.

Last month, Langer announced he’d play at the Masters for the final time. He made 40 starts at Augusta National Golf Club and won twice — 1985 and 1993 — and also earned entry into the U.S. Open following his U.S. Senior Open win. Now, both are off.

He is a six-time winner of the senior tour’s Charles Schwab Cup championship, most recently in 2021.
