We now know when Conor McGregor will return to the octagon, and the 32-year-old Irishman is favored to beat Dustin Poirier in the headline event at UFC 257 on Jan. 23.
The fight will take place on “Fight Island” at Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. McGregor (22-4 UFC record) has been installed as a -233 favorite by SportsBook.com to beat Poirier (26-6), who is being offered at +190.
UFC president Dana White announced the date of the fight on Tuesday. McGregor scored a first-round TKO of Poirier in a featherweight bout at UFC 178 in 2014.
The rematch will be a non-title lightweight fight, and will mark McGregor’s first fight since a TKO win over Donald Cerrone in UFC 246 on Jan. 18. McGregor has fought only twice in the UFC since 2016.
Poirier, 31, beat Dan Hooker by unanimous decision on June 27 in his lone fight since losing by submission to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 242 in September of 2019. FanDuel is among several book offering McGregor as a -250 favorite.
FanDuel is also offering +340 odds that the fight will go the distance vs. -500 odds that it will not. The shortest odds at the book on how the fight will end is -320 for a KO or TKO. By Points is being offered at +340, with Submission odds at +1000.
The UFC’s plan for three events in seven days also includes former champion Max Holloway (21-6) against Calvin Kattar (22-4) in what White said will be the headline fight on Jan. 16. Holloway is the -200 favorite by SportsBetting.com and is -196 by FanDuel, with Kattar the +160 and +164 underdog, respectfully.
The Jan. 20 main event will feature Khamzat Chimaev (9-0) and welterweight title contender Leon Edwards (18-3). Chimaev is the heavy favorite at -178 by FanDuel to beat Edwards (+150).
