With a 3-0 sweep of G2 Esports in the upper-bracket final, Bilibili Gaming became the first team from Group A to advance to the knockout stage at the First Stand Tournament on Wednesday in Sao Paolo.
Also on Wednesday, FEARX swept Secret Whales 3-0 in the Group A lower-bracket semifinal to reach the lower-bracket final against G2 Esports. Secret Whales were eliminated.
The $1 million League of Legends competition began with eight teams competing at Riot Games Arena in the first cross-regional tournament of the season. They were drawn into two groups, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the knockout stage on Saturday and Sunday.
All matches are best-of-five. The champions take home $250,000, a quarter of the pot.
On Wednesday, Bilibili Gaming posted three straight victories on blue (33 minutes, 30 minutes and 30 minutes) to sweep G2 Esports. Luo “ON” Wenjun of China won match MVP honors for Bilibili after posting three kills, nine deaths and 38 assists across the three maps.
FEARX opened with back-to-back 27-minute wins on red, then completed the sweep with a 29-minute victory on blue. Nam “Diable” Dae-geun was the MVP for all-South Korean FEARX, totaling 15 kills, eight deaths and 19 assists.
