Cloud9 eked out a 3-2 win over RED Canids in the lower-bracket semifinal of the League of Legends Americas Cup on Thursday in Sao Paulo.
The result sends Cloud9 through to the lower-bracket final on Saturday against the loser of the Friday upper-bracket final featuring FURIA and Sentinels.
The four-team, double-elimination tournament included the second- and third-place finishers from the League Championship Series Lock-In and the Campeonato Brasileiro de League of Legends Cup. The winners of the latter two events qualified for the First Stand Tournament, scheduled for next week in Sao Paulo.
The opening two matches were best-of-three, while the remaining matches, including the grand final on Sunday, are best-of-five.
On Thursday, Cloud9 took the opening two maps on blue, in 41 minutes and 27 minutes. RED Canids claimed a 33-minute win on red, then leveled the match with a 32-minute win on blue. Cloud9 closed the contest with a 32-minute triumph on red.
The United States’ Robert “Blaber” Huang paced Cloud9 with an 18-16-25 kill-death-assist ratio, while Brazil’s Guilherme “Rabelo” Muniz wound up at 19-11-28 for RED Canids.
