Team France claimed the last two rounds to earn a 4-2 win over Team Saudi Arabia and capture the Rocket League’s FIFAe World Cup championship on Friday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The title match was level 2-2 before France logged consecutive 2-1 wins on AquaDome (Salty Shallows) and Neo Tokyo.
After France began the match by claiming Mannfield (Night) and Forbidden Temple, both by 2-1 scores, Saudi Arabia pulled level with a 5-2 victory on DFH Stadium (10th Anniversary) and a 2-1 triumph in overtime on Utopia Coliseum (Dusk).
The French squad of Alexis “zen” Bernier, Axel “Vatira” Touret and Charles “juicy” Sabiani, coached by Victor “Ferra” Francal, pocketed $50,000 from the $250,000 prize pool.
Saudi Arabia’s Yazeed Abdullah “Kiileerrz” Bakhashwin, Saleh Abdullah “Rw9” Bakhashwin and Mohammed Khalid “Trk511” Alotaibi, coached by Abdulrahman Saad “d7oom-24” Bin Fayez, earned $30,000 as the runners-up.
In the semifinals earlier on Friday, Team France edged Team United States 4-3, and Team Saudi Arabia eliminated Team Brazil 4-1. The semifinal losers each netted $25,000.
The U.S. team, coached by Matthew “Satthew” Ackermann, featured Massimo “Atomic” Franceschi, Landon “BeastMode” Konerman and Daniel “Daniel” Piecenski.
The Brazilian side, under coach Bruno “brunovisqui” Roschel Grandini, consisted of Yan Bernardo “yANXNZ” Xisto Nolasco, Pedro Henrique “swiftt.” Lewy Gomes and Gabriel “Lostt.” Souza Buzon.
