esports fans

G2 Stride sailed to victory at the 2024 Rocket League Championship Series’ Major 2, defeating Team Falcons 4-1 in the grand final on Sunday in London.

The semifinals and finals were contested Sunday at the Copper Box Arena, with G2 Stride overcoming FURIA Esports and Team Falcons rallying past Gentle Mates Alpine 4-3 in that round to reach the grand final.

Falcons opened the grand final with a 2-1 victory on Mannfield (Night), but G2 responded with a 2-0 win on Forbidden Temple. Falcons used their timeout after G2 prevailed 2-1 on DFH Stadium to take the series lead.

But the timeout didn’t slow G2’s momentum, and Falcons failed to score for the rest of the series. G2 won 1-0 on Utopia Coliseum (Dusk) and 3-0 on Aquadome (Salty Shallows) to seal the championship.

Landon “BeastMode” Konerman of G2 Stride was named Major 2 MVP.

In the semis, G2 opened a two-map lead on FURIA by winning 2-0 on Mannfield (Night) and 3-0 on Forbidden Temple. FURIA countered with 3-1 victories at DFH Stadium and Utopia Coliseum (Dusk). G2 rallied after using their timeout, winning 2-1 on both Aquadome (Salty Shallows) and Neo Tokyo to take the series 4-2.

Gentle Mates, the Major 1 winners, went back and forth with Falcons throughout their semifinal. Gentle Mates won 2-1 on Mannfield (Night) before Falcons scored a 4-0 rout on Forbidden Temple. Gentle Mates answered with a 3-1 win at DFH Stadium, but Falcons evened the series with a 1-0 win at Utopia Coliseum (Dusk).

Gentle Mates scored 1:22 into overtime to secure a big 3-2 win on Aquadome (Salty Shallows) and move back ahead in the series, but Falcons forged a dramatic comeback. After forcing a seventh map by winning 2-1 on Neo Tokyo, they scored the decisive goal 48 seconds into overtime to prevail 2-1 on Champions Field.
