Karmine Corp capped a perfect run through the Esports World Cup Rocket League tournament on Sunday with an emphatic 4-1 win over Geekay Esports in the grand final in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
After winning one match a day from Thursday to Saturday, Karmine went 2-0 on Sunday, beginning the day with a 4-2 win over Team Falcons in the first semifinal.
Karmine pocketed $400,000 for the tournament win and 1,000 EWC Club Points, used toward determining the overall EWC champion.
The EWC is a collection of more than 2,000 players from 200 clubs around the world competing in 25 tournaments across 24 titles. Teams compete for prize money and club points in each tournament.
Club points are then applied to the overall Club Championship standings, with the team finishing atop the standings being crowned Esports World Cup champion.
The EWC winner takes home $7 million dollars out of a $27 million prize pool. Another $38 million is spread across the game-specific tournaments.
The 25 tournaments include: Apex Legends, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Call of Duty: Warzone, Chess, Counter-Strike 2, Crossfire, Dota 2, EA FC 25, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, Free Fire, Honor of Kings, League of Legends, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Overwatch 2, PUBG MOBILE, PUBG: Battlegrounds, Rainbow Six Siege X, RENNSPORT, Rocket League, Starcraft 2, Street Fighter 6, Teamfight Tactics, Tekken 8 and Valorant.
Karmine dropped their first map of the day, losing 3-1 to Falcons on Mannfield (Night). But Karmine responded with a 1-0 win on Forbidden Temple and a 2-1 overtime win on DFH Stadium (10th Anniversary). Falcons evened the match at 2-2 with an overtime win on Utopia Coliseum (Dusk), but Karmine took AquaDome (Salty Shallows) and Neo Tokyo by 2-1 scores to end the match.
In the other semi, Geekay edged Team Vitality 4-3, taking Champions Field 2-1 in overtime in the winner-take-all seventh map.
Vitality was on the losing end of another 4-3 decision in the third-place match, again losing 2-1 on Champions Field on the seventh map as Falcons took third — and the $100,000 and 500 club points that go with it.
In the grand final, Karmine jumped out to a 3-0 lead — 1-0 on Mannfield (Night), 1-0 on Forbidden Temple, and 1-0 on DFH Stadium (10th Anniversary). Geekay got on the board with a 3-1 win on Utopia Coliseum (Dusk), but Karmine put the match away with a 1-0 win on AquaDome (Salty Shallows).
The 1,000 club points gave Karmine 1,200 for the EWC, good for a tie for 11th after Sunday’s events. Falcons hold the overall lead with 4,700 points.
