PARIVISION and Team Yandex finished at the top of their groups on Sunday to advance to the Dota 2 playoffs at the Esports World Cup in Paris.
On the final day of the group stage, PARIVISION (4-0-1) posted a 1-1 draw with Team Spirit to complete the round-robin action in Group C, winning in 43 minutes on red after Spirit won the opener in 33 minutes on red. Team Yandex (4-0-1) swept 1w to wrap up Group D, winning in 31 minutes on red and 60 minutes on green.
PARIVISION and Team Yandex join Team Falcons and Nigma Galaxy, who emerged as the winners of Group A and Group B, respectively, after Saturday’s matches. All four will be back in action Thursday and Friday for the quarterfinals.
The Dota 2 event at the Esports World Cup is the final championship of the ESL Pro Tour, now in its fourth season. The tournament has a $2 million prize pool, with $750,000 and 1,000 club points going to the first-place team.
The format consists of three phases: a group stage (through Sunday) of four groups of six teams competing in a round robin, a survival phase (July 14-15) formatted into a single-elimination bracket that will see four teams advance, then a final playoff stage (July 16-19), which is single elimination.
All matches in Phase 1 were two games, while the matches in Phases 2 and 3 are best-of-three until the best-of-five grand final.
The four group winners advance directly to the playoffs. Teams finishing second, third and fourth in each group move to the survival stage, with the remaining teams eliminated.
Also Sunday in Group C, Vici Gaming swept MOUZ and REKONIX blanked Team Nemesis. In Group D, Virtus.pro swept OG, while LGD Gaming did the same to Inner Circle x Insanity.
A 1v1 tiebreaker was played to decide third place in Group D between LGD Gaming and Virtus.pro. LGD’s Santiago “TaiLung” Aguero Gustavo of Peru prevailed in 17 1/2 minutes over Abed “Abed” Yusop of the Philippines.
The teams get a day off on Monday before the survival stage begins with four matches on Tuesday between the third- and fourth-place finishers in each group. The winners of Tuesday’s battles will take on the second-place finishers on Wednesday, with those victors advancing to the playoffs along with the four group winners.
The Esports World Cup features competition in 25 titles and a $75 million prize pool. This week’s events also include Valorant, Apex Legends and Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. Upcoming events include League of Legends, PUBG, EA Sports FC, Call of Duty: Warzone, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Rocket League, Counter-Strike 2 and Fortnite.
