The Los Angeles Thieves twice defeated the Vancouver Surge on Sunday, including in the grand final of the Call of Duty League’s Stage 3 Major in Bacon Raton, Fla.
The Thieves’ championship effort was rewarded with $150,000 and 100 Call of Duty League points in the $365,000 double-elimination major.
Los Angeles swept Vancouver 4-0 in the best-of-seven grand final. The Thieves won on Hacienda Hardpoint 250-228, Dealership Search & Destroy 6-5, Vault Control 3-0 and Skyline Hardpoint 250-134.
They had advanced earlier Sunday out of the upper-bracket final. Vancouver wasted a 2-0 lead and fell 3-2 to Los Angeles. The Surge triumphed on Hacienda Hardpoint (250-219) and Dealership Search & Destroy 6-1. The Thieves rallied with wins on Vault Control (3-0), Protocol Hardpoint (250-211) and Rewind Search & Destroy (6-4).
Toronto Ultra went the distance to eliminate the Miami Heretics 3-2 in the lower-bracket semifinal. Toronto won 250-158 on Red Card Hardpoint, then lost the next two maps, 6-5 on Red Card Search & Destroy and 3-1 on Vault Control. Ultra captured the last two maps, 250-225 on Vault Hardpoint and 6-1 on Rewind Search & Destroy.
Ultra moved on to the lower-bracket final, where they were stopped by the Surge 3-1. Vancouver had the edge, 250-249, on Vault Hardpoint, and 6-4 on Protocol Search &Destroy. Toronto stayed alive with a 3-0 win on Protocol Control. But Vancouver won the best-of-five match with a 250-90 victory on Skyline Hardpoint.
