OpTic Texas took down the Toronto Ultra 3-1 on Sunday and grabbed the No. 1 seed in the Call of Duty League’s Major 1 that begins Thursday in Madrid.
Texas and Toronto finished qualifying tied for the best record at 6-1, so Texas earned the better seed in the winners’ bracket for the upcoming major.
OpTic started their match strong with a 250-184 victory on Vault Hardpoint and a 6-4 triumph on Red Card Search and Destroy. The Ultra got on the board with a 3-1 result on Vault Control, but Texas cruised to the overall victory with a 250-156 win on Protocol Hardpoint.
The other two matches to close qualifying Sunday saw the Boston Breach beat the Los Angeles Thieves and the Atlanta FaZe top Cloud9 New York, both by 3-2 scores.
Boston opened with a 250-206 win on Vault Hardpoint and a 6-3 score on Red Card Search and Destroy, but the Thieves leveled the match with a 3-0 win on Hacienda Control and a 250-187 victory on Protocol Hardpoint. The final map was Hacienda Search and Destroy, and the Breach pulled away for a 6-3 win.
Atlanta and New York traded wins for the first four rounds of their fight. The FaZe won 250-130 on Red Card Hardpoint and Hacienda Control, while Cloud9 squeaked out a 6-5 result on Hacienda Search and Destroy and 250-241 on Vault Hardpoint. When they faced off for all the marbles on Vault Search and Destroy, Atlanta prevailed 6-4.
At Major 1, the top eight seeds will begin in the winners’ bracket and Nos. 9-12 start directly in the elimination bracket.
