Routs rule on opening day of CDL Stage 2 major qualifying

OpTic Texas, the runner-up at Call of Duty League Stage 1 Major, opened qualifying for the Stage 2 Major with a 3-0 win over the Boston Breach on Friday.

In other opening-day action, the Carolina Royal Ravens swept the Toronto KOI 3-0, and Miami Heretics trounced FaZe Vegas 3-0.

The 12 Call of Duty teams are playing a full qualifying round robin to determine seeding for the second major of the season, to be held March 27-29 in Marston Green, England, as part of the DreamHack Birmingham event.

The top six teams in qualifying head straight into the Stage 2 Major playoffs, while the teams in seventh through 10th place will compete in a play-in round.

The Stage 2 Major champion will receive $150,000 and 100 Call of Duty League points, while the runner-up will get $90,000 and 75 CDL points.

On Friday, Texas topped Boston 250-180 on Scar Hardpoint, 6-3 on Scar Search and Destroy and 3-2 on Den Overload. The United States’ Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro recorded 67 kills and a plus-13 kill-death differential for OpTic. Mexico’s Eric “Snoopy” Perez amassed 54 kills and a minus-4 K-D different for the Breach.

Carolina took down Toronto 250-202 on Exposure Hardpoint, 6-2 on Exposure Search and Destroy and 5-3 on Exposure Overload. Dylan “Nero” Koch paced the all-U.S. Royal Ravens with 68 kills and a plus-24 K-D differential. Denmark’s Tobias “CleanX” Jonsson finished with 69 kills and a plus-12 K-D differential for the KOI.

Miami beat Vegas 250-132 on Scar Hardpoint, 6-5 on Scar Search and Destroy and 4-3 on Scar Overload. Spain’s Diego “SupeR” Escudero starred for the Heretics with 72 kills and a plus-29 K-D differential. Belgium’s Jordan “Abuzah” Francois led FaZe with 72 kills and a plus-29 K-D differential.
