Sweeps were the order of the day in the Overwatch Champions Series’ North American Stage 1 on Saturday.
Spacestation Gaming’s win moved them atop the standings, with the other two victors, NTMR and Team Liquid, also in the top four.
The $100,000 tournament, played online, features eight teams. The regular-season round robin will conclude Feb. 23, with six qualifying teams then heading to the double-elimination regional playoffs.
The first-place team will take home $30,000, the second-place team will make $20,000, and both will earn berths in the OCS’ Champions Clash.
On Saturday, Spacestation Gaming began its match with Avidity with a 2-1 win on Lijiang Tower Control. They followed that with a 3-1 victory on Suravasa Flashpoint, and completed the shutout on Esperanca Push, 142.41m to 34.52m. Kim “Kellan” Min-Jae of South Korea earned match MVP honors.
NTMR opened its sweep of Amplify with a 2-0 win on Lijiang Tower Control. Next came a 4-3 verdict on Havana Escort, and then a 3-1 victory on Suravasa Flashpoint. Benjamin “UltraViolet” David of the U.S. was named the match MVP.
Team Liquid took care of Rad Esports. It started with a 2-0 win on Lijiang Tower Control, continued 3-2 on Eichenwalde Hybrid and ended 3-0 on Dorado Escort. Boston “Infekted” Fine of the U.S. claimed match MVP honors.
