The Vancouver Surge and the Atlanta FaZe posted victories in the semifinals on Saturday to reach the upper-bracket final at the Call of Duty League Stage 2 Major.
Also on Saturday, Toronto Ultra swept OpTic Texas in the lower-bracket second round, then swept Boston Breach in the quarterfinals to reach the lower-bracket semifinals, where they will face the Los Angeles Thieves. The Thieves swept Cloud9 New York to make the semifinals.
The Stage 2 Major qualifying round included all 12 teams, with each playing seven matches to determine seeding for the double-elimination playoffs, which run through Sunday. The championship team will $150,000.
Boston Breach jumped out to an early lead over the Surge with a 250-248 win on Vault Hardpoint, but the Surge took the next three (6-4 on Skyline Search & Destroy, 3-1 on Vault Control and 250-242 on Hacienda Hardpoint) to secure the victory.
The FaZe were on the verge of a sweep over Cloud9 New York after a 250-237 win on Hacienda Hardpoint and a 6-4 victory on Vault Search & Destroy, but Cloud9 pulled out a 3-0 triumph on Protocol Control. The FaZe avoided a decisive fifth game, taking Red Card Hardpoint 250-170.
In Round 2 of the lower bracket, the Ultra had no trouble sweeping OpTic Texas with wins on Vault Hardpoint (250-144), Skyline Search & Destroy (6-2) and Protocol Control (3-1).
Against Boston Breach in the lower-bracket quarterfinals, the Ultra rolled once again, winning 250-219 on Skyline Hardpoint, 6-2 on Skyline Search & Destroy and Protocol Control 3-0.
The Thieves cruised in the other lower-bracket quarterfinal, sweeping Cloud9 with wins on Hacienda Hardpoint (250-101), Skyline Search & Destroy (6-5) and Protocol Control (3-2).
