American teenager Cori “Coco” Gauff is one of 24 women still standing at the Australian Open after taking out defending champion Naomi Osaka and childhood hero Venus Williams in Melbourne this week.
FanDuel is now offering +1500 odds on the 15-year-old winning her first WTA title – much less a grand slam event – the fifth-lowest odds among the remaining field.
Top-ranked Ashleigh Barty remains the betting favorite at +280 in her home country, followed by Karolina Pliskova, Petra Kvitova and Simona Halep each at +600.
Sofia Kenin, Gauff’s fourth-round opponent, is +1800 behind Elina Svitolina (+1700). While Gauff’s tournament odds have shrunk, most sportsbooks aren’t even favoring her to get through her next match.
No. 14 Kenin is -141 to beat Gauff (+114) by DraftKings, while PointsBet is offering Kenin at -147 and Gauff at +120.
Gauff beat Williams in straight sets to open the tournament, then came from behind to beat Sorana Cirstea in three sets before knocking off the third-seeded Osaka 6-3, 6-4.
Ironically, FanDuel has the longest odds of the three on a Gauff victory – with Kenin being offered at -150 to Gauff’s +128.
China’s Qiang Wang, who upset Serena Williams in the third round, has +3000 tournament odds at FanDuel. She will next take on Ons Jabeur (+5500), the unseeded Tunisian who ended Caroline Wozniacki’s storied career with a victory on Friday.
