Three-time and defending Tour de France champion Tadej Pogacar reclaimed the yellow jersey with a stunning Stage 12 win Thursday on the slopes of Hautacam.
The Slovenian star dashed to the front with 12.5 kilometers remaining and finished the mountainous 180.6-kilometer trek from Auch more than two minutes ahead of rival and two-time winner Jonas Vingegaard of Denmark and third-place Florian Lipowitz of Germany.
Pogacar and Vingegaard are 1-2 in the overall standings, followed by Belgium’s Remco Evenepoel, Lipowitz and Kevin Vauquelin of France. Ireland’s Ben Healy relinquished the yellow jersey after two days in front.
It was the 20th career Tour de France stage win for Pogacar, who leads Vingegaard by three minutes and 31 seconds.
Stage 13 on Friday is an individual time trial from Loudenvielle to Peyragudes. The 21-stage spectacle will conclude July 27 in Paris.
