Houston basketball coach Kelvin Sampson said all 15 players on the Cougars’ roster tested positive for COVID-19.
The sixth-ranked Cougars are 4-0 and scheduled to return to the court Sunday against Alcorn State, the first game since the team paused activities Dec. 7. Sampson said he held multiple practices with as few as six players. Entering the weekend, Sampson said there is no way his team is in “basketball shape” due to the lack of conditioning. Players have been quarantined with only limited court time.
When asked how many players had COVID-19, Sampson said: “All 15 players.”
Due to COVID concerns, Sampson was not allowed to coach in a Dec. 5 victory over the Sough Carolina but did not disclose whether he tested positive.
“The last time that I saw these kids in a game was Nov. 29,” Sampson said. “This is unprecedented, man.”
