David Malukas joins Meyer Shank Racing

David Malukas

Meyer Shank Racing hired David Malukas on Friday and said he will drive in the No. 66 Dallara-Honda for the remainder of the season.

Malukas, 22, will be behind the wheel at the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey on June 23 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

He has been idle since dislocating his left wrist in a preseason mountain bike accident. He had been released from his contract by Arrow McLaren on April 29 after he missed the first four races of the season due to the injury.

“Despite setbacks earlier this year, I have been diligently focusing on my recovery, putting in the necessary effort and dedication to get back to peak condition,” Malukas said in a statement. “I am ready and excited to be back in the car, aiming to make the most of this chance and deliver strong performances for the team and our supporters. This opportunity means a great deal to me, and I am determined to repay the faith shown in me with my best efforts on the track.”

Tom Blomqvist started the first five races before he crashed on the first lap of the Indianapolis 500 last month. Four-time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves replaced Blomqvist, who — per the team release — remains “a part of the MSR family.”

“This whole process has been extremely difficult on myself and (team co-owner) Jim Meyer,” Mike Shank said in a statement. “There were so many things for us to consider as we need to do everything we can to make up ground in the championship and Leader Circle standings. We are pleased to have David join us as he has both experience and potential and we are looking forward to having him join us starting in Milwaukee for the test and then going racing with him at Laguna.”

Malukas was given his opportunity with Arrow McLaren last September when Alex Palou decided against racing for the team in 2024.
