Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Drew Rasmussen took a perfect game into the ninth inning of Sunday’s contest against the Baltimore Orioles.
Rasmussen struck out six while retiring the first 24 batters. He has tossed 79 pitches through the eighth inning.
Rasmussen, 27, retired Austin Hayes on a grounder to first to end the eighth.
Rasmussen is looking to join Matt Garza (2010) as the only Rays’ pitchers to throw a no-hitter.
Felix Hernandez of the Seattle Mariners tossed the most recent perfect game in 2012.
Tampa Bay leads the game 4-0. Randy Arozarena hit a three-run blast in the third inning.
