Bryce Underwood was 16-of-25 passing for 235 yards, a touchdown and an interception to lead No. 23 Michigan to a 63-3 rout of in-state foe Central Michigan in Ann Arbor on Saturday.

Underwood also was effective with his legs, rushing for 114 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries.

Justice Haynes rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries, and Semaj Morgan caught four passes for 69 yards and a touchdown as well for Michigan (2-1), which had eight rushing touchdowns.

Angel Flores rushed for 76 yards on nine carries in defeat for Central Michigan (1-2).

After struggling in a loss at Oklahoma last week, the Michigan offense amassed 616 yards, 381 rushing yards and 35 first downs for the game.

Michigan converted eight of its 11 tries on third down and went 1 of 2 on fourth-down attempts.

Defensively, Michigan held the Chippewas to 139 yards of total offense, 79 rushing yards and eight first downs.

Biff Poggi served as the Wolverines’ interim head coach with Sherrone Moore serving the first of a two-game suspension for his role in the school’s sign-stealing scandal.

Michigan started quickly, scoring four touchdowns in the first 20:37 of the game to grab a 28-0 lead.

The Wolverines took a 7-0 lead on a 2-yard touchdown run by Haynes with 10:56 left in the first quarter, which finished off a 10-play, 75-yard drive. Underwood then threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to Morgan with 7:21 to go in the first to make it 14-0.

In the second quarter, Underwood scored on a 20-yard touchdown run and Andrew Marsh on a 23-yard touchdown run to make it 28-0 Michigan.

Following a 22-yard field goal by Central Michigan’s Cade Graham, Michigan took a 35-3 lead into halftime following a 1-yard touchdown run by Jordan Marshall with nine seconds left.

Marshall added a 4-yard touchdown run and Underwood an 18-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to help Michigan stretch its lead to 49-3.

Michigan made it 63-3 in the fourth quarter on 1-yard touchdown runs by Bryson Kuzdzal and Jasper Parker.
