Boden Kapke had three 3-pointers and equaled his season high with 17 points, while Donald Hand Jr. tallied 12 of his team-high 18 points in the second half as Boston College posted a 76-71 victory over Temple on Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia.

The Eagles, coming off a heartbreaking 60-59 loss to Central Connecticut State on Tuesday, posted 10-0 runs in both halves to win their first game on the road since near the end of the 2023-24 season. Their second-half run, punctuated by an Aidan Shaw basket, gave Boston College a commanding 11-point lead with 7:04 to play.

Fred Payne had 17 points after making three first-half 3-pointers for Boston College (2-2), which entered the game shooting just 24% from beyond the arc. The Eagles shot 29.6% (8 of 27) from long range to defeat Temple (2-1) for the second straight year.

Arkansas State transfer Derrian Ford scored 18 to lead the Owls, who suffered their first loss of the season after two impressive wins over Delaware State and La Salle. Aiden Tobiason chipped in with 12 points Saturday for the Owls, who never led after falling behind 7-6 with 16:58 to play in the first half.

Kapke, a Butler transfer, had three blocks, while Shaw added five blocks and a team-high 14 rebounds. Hand Jr., the ACC’s Most Improved Player last season, also grabbed 11 rebounds to finish with a double-double. Boston College totaled 13 blocks and, thanks primarily to Kapke, the Eagles’ bench outscored Temple’s 25-15.

Nebraska transfer Gavin Griffiths kept Temple in the game with four second-half three-pointers. He tied his season high with 16 points overall.

The Owls didn’t make a 3-pointer until Tobiason hit one with 11:19 left in the game. They stayed close in this contest thanks to a decided (27-16) advantage in attempts at the foul line. Temple shot 74% (20 of 27) from the line overall but hit just 7 of 12 from the second half, as it was never able to retake the lead.

Messiah Gilyard added 11 points and six rebounds off the bench for Temple.
