Artemi Panarin collected a goal and an assist and Igor Shesterkin made 36 saves, fueling the New York Rangers to a 4-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday in Raleigh, N.C.

Former Hurricane Vincent Trocheck and Noah Laba also tallied and Will Cuylle scored into the empty net for the Rangers, who have won two in a row following a season-high four-game losing streak. They also avenged a 3-0 setback to Carolina on Nov. 4.

New York captain J.T. Miller notched an assist in his return from a two-game absence due to an upper-body injury.

Carolina defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere scored and set up a goal, Seth Jarvis also tallied and Sebastian Aho had two assists while playing in his 700th career NHL game.

Frederik Andersen turned aside 14 shots for the Hurricanes, who fell short in the opener of their season-high seven-game homestand. They have lost two in a row following a five-game point streak.

Defenseman Adam Fox wired a diagonal feed from the right point to the left circle for Panarin, who converted a one-timer to give New York a 2-1 lead with 1:04 remaining in the second period.

Trocheck doubled the advantage after scoring from the slot just 45 seconds into the third period.

Jarvis halved the deficit over 10 minutes later after his shot from the left circle sailed under the crossbar for his team-leading 12th goal. Carolina was unable to net the equalizer, however.

Taylor Raddysh alertly tapped the puck from the right corner to Laba, who skated into the right circle and wired a shot under the crossbar to open the scoring with 3:07 remaining in the first period.

Laba, however, was whistled for a slashing penalty at 4:57 of the second period and the Hurricanes converted seven seconds later to forge a 1-1 tie.

Gostisbehere’s blast from the slot beat Shesterkin for his third goal of the season and ninth point (two goals, seven assists) in his last eight games.
