Freshman Andre Mills scored a career-high 24 points to propel Maryland to a 77-70 Big Ten victory over Iowa on Wednesday in College Park, Md.

David Coit scored 19 points off the bench and Solomon Washington put up 10 points and eight rebounds for the Terrapins (10-14, 3-10), who won their second straight after losing eight of nine.

Darius Adams contributed 11 points as Maryland, which entered the game as the worst field goal-shooting team in the Big Ten, hit 53.2% of its shots from the field and 8 of 23 (34.8%) from 3-point range.

The Terrapins took the lead for good with a late eight-point run, which Coit culminated with a 3-pointer and a driving scoop shot to put Maryland up 62-56 with 6:31 left.

Down the stretch, Elijah Saunders, who finished with 12 points and eight rebounds, kept the Terrapins in command as he drained a triple with 2:55 left and wrapped it up with four free throws in the final 18 seconds.

With the win before a sparse home crowd, the Terrapins avenged a 19-point loss at Iowa two months ago. They won the rematch despite being on the wrong end of a 14-4 turnover margin.

Bennett Stirtz scored 32 points and dished six assists for Iowa (18-6, 8-5), which entered on a six-game winning streak in conference play, its longest in 10 seasons.

Tavion Banks added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Hawkeyes, who were uncharacteristically cold as they missed their final 10 shots from beyond the arc.

Iowa finished with 42.4% marksmanship overall and 7 of 28 (25%) from deep.

In the first half there were six ties, six lead changes and neither team led by more than six.

Maryland gained that six-point edge in the final minute on its way to a 37-32 lead at the break.

After the Terrapins took a 39-32 lead, Stirtz scored half the points in an 8-2 spurt as the Hawkeyes drew to within 41-40.

Midway through the second half, little-used reserve Brendan Hausen hit two 3-pointers in a span of 44 seconds, sandwiched around a Mills triple, as Iowa took a 51-50 lead.
