Connor Ingram made 27 saves for his second shutout of the season and Connor McDavid extended his goal streak to five games as the Edmonton Oilers recorded a 3-0 victory over the visiting Seattle Kraken on Tuesday.

It was the ninth career shutout for Ingram, who was celebrating his 29th birthday. Max Jones and Kasperi Kapanen also scored for Edmonton (38-28-9, 85 points), which extended its winning streak to a season-high four games.

The Oilers, in second place in the Pacific Division, moved within two points of the first-place Anaheim Ducks while also extending their lead over the third-place Vegas Golden Knights to three points.

Philipp Grubauer, playing in his 400th career NHL game, finished with 21 saves for Seattle (32-30-11, 75 points), which lost for the sixth time in the past seven games (1-4-2). The loss kept the Kraken two points behind the Nashville Predators in the race for the final Western Conference wild-card playoff spot.

Edmonton took a 1-0 lead at 5:28 mark of the first period. Jake Walman’s point shot caromed off the right shoulder of a ducking Jones in front of the net and went over Grubauer’s outstretched glove.

Kapanen made it 2-0 at 12:43 of the opening period. He intercepted Adam Larsson’s pass near the blue line and then led a 2-on-1 break, finishing with a wrist shot from the right circle past Grubauer’s blocker side and into low far corner.

Edmonton had a chance to extend the lead to three goals midway through the third period when McDavid set up a wide-open Evan Bouchard for shot above the right circle, but Bouchard’s attempt hit the left post.

Seattle pulled Grubauer for an extra attacker with 2:55 remaining and didn’t get a shot on goal off before McDavid sealed the win on an empty-netter with 2:26 to go. It was McDavid’s 43rd goal of the season and league-leading 125th point.
