TJ Rumfield drove in Kyle Karros with the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning and Hunter Goodman and Jake McCarthy each homered as the Colorado Rockies rallied for a 9-8 victory over the Los Angeles Angels in the opener of a three-game series on Monday night in Anaheim, Calif.

Troy Johnston had two hits and an RBI, and Karros, Sterlin Thompson and McCarthy each also had a double, two hits and an RBI for Colorado, which won despite committing four errors. Antonio Senzatela (5-0) picked up the win with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Jose Siri hit a grand slam to highlight a five-run third inning, Jorge Soler went 3-for-5 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored, and Oswald Peraza had two hits, stole a base and scored a run for Los Angeles. Kirby Yates (0-1) gave up the winning run in the ninth.

Colorado took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Tyler Freeman walked, advanced to second when first baseman Vaughn Grissom threw wildly back to Soriano after a pickoff attempt for an error and scored on a single by Johnston.

The Rockies extended the lead to 2-0 in the third inning when McCarthy lined his fourth home run into the bleachers in right-center.

Los Angeles rebounded to take a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Jo Adell and the second grand slam of Siri’s career, a 390-foot drive in the bullpen in left off Rockies starter Kyle Freeland.

Colorado cut the lead to 5-3 in the fifth on an RBI single by Thompson, driving in Willi Castro, who was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a walk to Edouard Julien.

Los Angeles extended the lead to 6-3 when Grissom, who had walked to open the inning, scored from third on a throwing error by Goodman when Peraza stole second.

Colorado took an 8-6 lead in the eighth on an RBI double by Karros, an RBI single by Freeman and Goodman’s 14th home run, a three-run shot to left.

The Angels rallied to tie it, 8-8, in the bottom of the eighth when Adam Frazier and Donovan Walton drew walks and came around to score on Soler’s triple into the right field corner.

The Rockies then took a 9-8 lead in the ninth when Karros singled, advanced to third on a double by McCarthy and scored on a sacrifice fly by Rumfield.
