Inter Miami CF appointed Cristian Alberto “Kily” Gonzalez as their new head coach.
The move, announced Thursday night, will have Gonzalez at the controls once he receives the corresponding work permits.
Guillermo Hoyos, 63, is expected to oversee the Herons in the interim, however he was issued a one-match suspension and an undisclosed fine by MLS for the club’s “repeated violation” of the league’s late kickoff policy.
Hoyos will serve his suspension Saturday when Miami hosts CF Montreal.
He moved over from his role as Inter Miami’s sporting director when he replaced head coach Javier Mascherano, who stepped down April 14.
Gonzalez, 52, has a close relationship with club captain Lionel Messi. He previously served as the head coach at Argentine sides Rosario Central, Union (Santa Fe) and Platense.
Inter Miami (11-4-6, 39 points) reside in second place in the Eastern Conference standings.
