New York Mets second baseman Robinson Cano will return from the 10-day injured list to play in Wednesday night’s game against the visiting San Francisco Giants. Cano has been sidelined since May 22 due to a strained left quadriceps. He is slated to bat third in the contest versus the Giants. New York designated outfielder Aaron Altherr for assignment to clear a roster opening. Cano is batting just .241 with three homers and 13 RBIs in 45 games. The eight-time All-Star was acquired from the Seattle Mariners in the offseason. Altherr, 28, was 1-for-10 in six games with the Mets and is 2-for-40 overall in 29 games this season. He began the season by going 1-for-29 for the Philadelphia Phillies and later had one hitless at-bat for the San Francisco Giants. –Field Level Media (@FieldLevelMedia)
