Miami QB Perry will start vs. No. 20 Virginia

Miami Hurricanes quarterback N’Kosi Perry will start this weekend’s game against the No. 20 Virginia Cavaliers, the team announced Wednesday.

Jarren Williams sustained an apparent shoulder injury during his three-interception performance in the first half of the Hurricanes’ 42-35 loss to Virginia Tech last Saturday.

Perry, who was benched against the Cavaliers last season after just four series, came off the sideline Saturday and completed 28 of 47 passes for 422 yards with four touchdowns and one interception for Miami (2-3, 0-2 ACC).

“Jarren Williams is dealing with an upper-extremity issue that leaves him less than 100 percent,” coach Manny Diaz said Wednesday. “We think N’Kosi gives us a chance to win. I think we all saw, last Saturday, the improvement in his game, and we’re excited to get behind him, ride behind him and find a way to beat a very well-coached and tough-minded Virginia football team.”

Perry completed 97 of 191 passes for 1,091 yards with 13 touchdowns and six interceptions last season for the Hurricanes.
