Pinch-hitter Dominic Smith broke a tie with an RBI single in the 10th, new closer Randy Rodriguez stranded the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning and the San Francisco Giants snapped a six-game losing streak with a 4-3 road win over the New York Mets on Friday night.

After blowing a three-run lead, the Giants jumped on Edwin Diaz (5-1), New York’s fifth pitcher, in the 10th, cashing in when Smith, a former Met, drove home automatic runner Willy Adames with one out.

Rodriguez, who inherited the closer’s role when Camilo Doval was traded to the New York Yankees on Thursday, hit Francisco Lindor with one out in the bottom of the 10th, then walked Pete Alonso with two down to load the bases. But he then struck out Ronny Mauricio to record his second save and send the Mets to a fourth consecutive defeat.

Ryan Walker (3-4), who threw a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth, was credited with the win.

The Mets trailed 3-0 before Alonso ended Giants starter Robbie Ray’s shutout bid with a solo home run, his 23rd, leading off the seventh.

New York then took advantage of a fortuitous deflection to draw even in the eighth, getting a break when Juan Soto’s potential inning-ending grounder right at shortstop Adames instead caromed off the foot of reliever Joey Lucchesi and into left field for an RBI single.

Alonso then greeted former teammate Jose Butto with a sacrifice fly, producing a 3-3 tie.

In an All-Star pitching rematch of a 2-1 Mets win in San Francisco last Saturday, Ray limited the hosts to one run and four hits in seven innings. He walked one and struck out six.

Fellow left-hander David Peterson of the Mets was pulled after six innings, having allowed two runs on four hits. He walked two and struck out four.

The Giants’ runs off Peterson came in the second on an RBI double by Casey Schmitt and a run-scoring infield out by Jung Hoo Lee.

San Francisco made it 3-0 in the seventh against Mets reliever Ryne Stanek when Lee doubled and scored on a double by Patrick Bailey.

Wilmer Flores had a pair of singles for the Giants, who were swept by the Mets in a three-game home series last week.

Jeff McNeil had a double for the Mets, their only extra-base hit other than Alonso’s homer, as they were out-hit 10-6.
