A’s claim series with 10-inning win over White Sox

athletics

Luis Urias hit a two-run homer with one out in bottom of the 10th inning to give the Athletics a 3-2 walk-off victory over the Chicago White Sox in the rubber game of their three-game series on Sunday afternoon in West Sacramento, Calif.

Urias hit the first pitch he saw from reliever Jordan Leasure (0-2), a 98.6 mph fastball, an estimated 398 feet over the left field fence, driving in ghost runner Jacob Wilson and giving the Athletics their fourth win in the last five games.

The White Sox had taken a 2-1 lead in the top of the 10th against reliever Grant Holman (2-0) when Luis Robert Jr. singled to right, driving in ghost runner Jacob Amaya, who had advanced to third on a flyout by Andrew Benintendi.

Brent Rooker went 2-for-3 with a double, walk and RBI for the Athletics, who won back-to-back home series for the first time this season.

Joshua Palacios went 2-for-4 with a home run for Chicago, which finished its 10-game road trip at 3-7.

Athletics starter Osvaldo Bido, who gave up four home runs in his previous start, an 8-5 loss to visiting Texas on Tuesday, gave up a homer on the third pitch of the game, a 400-foot opposite field drive to left by Palacios to give Chicago the early 1-0 lead. It was the first homer of the season for Palacios.

The A’s tied it in the bottom half of the inning against left-hander Brandon Eisert, the third straight opener for the White Sox. Lawrence Butler led off with a single to center and scored on Rooker’s double over the head of left fielder Benintendi. Eisert then bounced back to get the next three batters on ground outs with Rooker stranded at third.

Bido was solid after allowing his game-opening homer. He went 5 1/3 innings, allowing just five hits and the one run, with two walks and one strikeout.

Davis Martin replaced Eisert as the “bulk” pitcher after the first inning and pitched six shutout innings. He allowed three hits, walked two and struck out five.
