The Houston Astros placed outfielder Chas McCormick on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday because of right hamstring discomfort.
In a corresponding move, the Astros recalled shortstop Jacob Amaya from Triple-A Sugar Land. Houston started top prospect Joey Loperfido who was called up earlier this week, in McCormick’s place in left field for the home game Wednesday against the Cleveland Guardians.
McCormick, 29, hasn’t played since Saturday. He is batting .236 with three doubles and eight RBIs in 21 games. The move is retroactive to Sunday.
McCormick is in his fourth season with Houston, which selected him in the 21st round of the 2017 MLB Draft out of Millersville (Pa.) University. He is a .258 career hitter with 50 home runs and 172 RBIs in 363 games.
Amaya, 25, has not played in the majors this season. He made his debut in 2023, playing four games for the Miami Marlins. The Astros obtained him in a trade on April 6.
