The Athletics placed starting pitcher J.T. Ginn on the 15-day injured list on Saturday because of a right elbow impingement.

The right-hander is eligible to come off the injured list on Sept. 20, but the Athletics haven’t yet made a determination about whether he will pitch again this season.

In a corresponding move, the Athletics recalled right-hander Jack Perkins from Triple-A Las Vegas one day after optioning him to the affiliate.

In other moves on Saturday, the team recalled right-hander Seth Johnson from Las Vegas and optioned rookie righty Kade Morris to Triple A.

Ginn, 27, last pitched on Aug. 26, earning the win after going six innings and allowing four runs, six hits (including three home runs) and two walks with three strikeouts in the 7-4 home victory over the Minnesota Twins.

The Athletics flew in an orthopedist on Saturday to evaluate Ginn for what was described as general fatigue/soreness.

“We’ll make a determination (Saturday) as to his future,” Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said Friday. “You always want guys to finish the season, but we need to make the right decision for him going forward and his future, especially going into next year.”

Ginn is 9-8 with a 3.71 ERA, 57 walks and 121 strikeouts in a career-high 138 1/3 innings over 27 games (24 starts) this season. He has a career mark of 14-16 with a 4.25 ERA, 97 walks and 249 strikeouts in 58 games (46 starts) over parts of the last three seasons with the Athletics.

Perkins, 26, is 3-10 with a 6.50 ERA, three saves, 47 walks and 116 strikeouts in 98 1/3 innings over 33 games (13 starts) this season.

He made his major league debut in 2025 and is a career 6-12 with a 5.85 ERA, six saves, 65 walks and 153 strikeouts in 137 innings over 45 games (17 starts).

Johnson, who turns 28 on Sept. 19, is 0-0 with a 13.50 ERA in 4 2/3 innings over five relief appearances with the Athletics since he was traded from the Philadelphia Phillies on Aug. 3 for outfielder Colby Thomas. Johnson was 1-0 with a 5.51 ERA in 16 1/3 innings over 16 relief appearances with the Phillies.

Morris, 24, was 0-1 with a 10.90 ERA, seven walks and 10 strikeouts in 17 1/3 innings over six games (two starts) for the Athletics. He started Friday’s 7-6 win at Seattle and allowed five runs on five hits and one walk in 2 2/3 innings.
