Blue Jays rally from six-run deficit, clip Twins 10-8

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 4-for-5 with three RBIs and the Toronto Blue Jays overcame a six-run deficit to defeat the visiting Minnesota Twins 10-8 on Saturday afternoon.

Danny Jansen hit a two-run home run, while Bo Bichette and Davis Schneider hit solo shots for Toronto.

The Blue Jays had a season-best 16 hits to gain a split of the first two games of a three-game series.

Carlos Santana hit a three-run homer and Ryan Jeffers added a solo shot for Minnesota.

Toronto right-hander Kevin Gausman was roughed up for seven runs (six earned) and 10 hits in three innings. Twins right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson allowed five runs and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Minnesota scored three runs in the first inning. Edouard Julien singled and Max Kepler extended his hit streak to 13 games with an infield single. Carlos Correa hit an RBI single. Alex Kirilloff lined a two-run single to left.

Santana started the second with a double. Julien walked and Trevor Larnach had an RBI single.

Bichette hit his second homer of the season in the bottom of the second.

Minnesota added three in the third on Santana’s sixth homer. It scored Correa, who walked, and Willi Castro, who doubled.

Toronto scored twice in the bottom of the third. Daulton Varsho had an RBI double and Guerrero Jr. added an RBI single.

Jeffers led off the fourth against Zach Pop with his ninth homer of the season.

Schneider started Toronto’s fifth with his fourth homer this season. Guerrero singled with one out and Cole Sands replaced Woods Richardson. Jansen hit his fourth homer of the season.

Sands allowed two singles in the Toronto sixth. Steven Okert replaced Sands with two out and walked Varsho. Guerrero hit a two-run single to tie the game 8-all.

Jay Jackson (1-2) allowed two singles in the Toronto seventh. Caleb Thielbar took over and walked pinch hitter George Springer to load the bases. Ernie Clement singled, Schneider hit a sacrifice fly and Toronto led 10-8.

Erik Swanson (1-2) and Yimi Garcia were perfect in the seventh and eighth respectively.
Jordan Romano pitched around Kepler’s two-out double in the ninth to earn his sixth save.
