The Atlanta Braves claimed right-hander Jose Ruiz off waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies.
The 30-year-old is a nine-year MLB veteran, spending time with the San Diego Padres, Chicago White Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Phillies.
He enjoyed a solid 2024 campaign in Philadelphia, going 5-1 with a 3.71 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 52 relief appearances (51 innings).
This season, Ruiz is 1-0 with an 8.16 ERA in 14 1/3 innings. In his most recent outing on May 31, he allowed five runs in one inning against the Milwaukee Brewers after he entered with a 5.40 ERA.
The Braves are searching for bullpen help after designating Craig Kimbrel for assignment Saturday morning after a single outing.
