The Atlanta Braves hit three home runs to back a solid pitching effort from Grant Holmes and earn a 6-2 victory over the visiting Minnesota Twins on Sunday to sweep a three-game series.
Matt Olson, Drake Baldwin and Marcell Ozuna all went deep to help the Braves extend their overall winning streak against Minnesota to 11 games.
Holmes (2-1) pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed one run on four hits, four walks and a season-high seven strikeouts. The right-hander escaped bases-loaded jams in the fourth and fifth innings to allow only one run on a wild pitch. It was his first career win against the Twins.
Enyel De Los Santos got the final out in the sixth inning and pitched the seventh, allowing one run. Pierce Johnson finished with two strikeouts over two scoreless innings.
The Twins’ Joe Ryan (1-2) went five innings, allowing six runs on eight hits and one walk with five strikeouts. He allowed all three home runs.
Minnesota relievers Louis Varland, Jhoan Duran and Danny Coulombe each delivered a scoreless inning and did not allow a base runner.
The Braves got on the board in the first inning on a long two-run homer by Olson, his third, then made it 3-0 in the second on an RBI single by Austin Riley.
Baldwin clubbed a two-run opposite field homer, his second, in the third inning and Ozuna hit a solo homer, his fourth, to start the fifth inning.
Minnesota’s Byron Buxton hit his fourth home run, a 434-foot solo shot to center field in the seventh inning. The Georgia native went 2-for-5 with a double and was 5-for-13 in the series.
The Twins are now 2-7 in interleague play and just 4-15 against the National League since Aug. 25, 2024. Atlanta is 5-4 against American League teams, all over their past nine games.
