Brewers activate RHP Matt Bush (rotator cuff) from IL

The Milwaukee Brewers activated right-hander Matt Bush from the 15-day injured list prior to Friday night’s game against the host Cleveland Guardians.

Bush, 37, spent nearly two months on the injured list due to a rotator cuff injury in his pitching shoulder.

Bush was 0-1 with an 8.22 ERA in nine appearances before the injury.

Bush was acquired by the Brewers at last season’s trade deadline from the Texas Rangers and went 0-2 with a 4.30 ERA in 25 appearances.

He spent four-plus seasons with the Rangers and is 12-10 with a 3.63 ERA in 214 career appearances (six starts).

Bush revived his baseball career with Texas after spending 3 1/2 years in prison for a DUI crash in 2012 that nearly killed a 72-year-old man on a motorcycle.

In 2004, Bush was the No. 1 overall pick as a shortstop by the San Diego Padres — one pick before the Detroit Tigers chose Justin Verlander — and was later labeled as one of the biggest top-pick busts in MLB history. But after the prison term, he made his major league debut with Texas in 2016 as a pitcher at age 30.

Milwaukee created a roster opening on Thursday when it sent right-hander Trevor Megill to Triple-A Nashville. Megill was 1-0 with a 4.91 ERA in 14 appearances.
