Brewers continue to roll, blank Rockies

brewers

Christian Yelich homered and Colin Rea tossed seven shutout innings to help the Milwaukee Brewers post a 3-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday night in Denver.

William Contreras and Brice Turang had three hits apiece and Yelich had two for Milwaukee, which won for the eighth time in the past 10 games.

Rea (8-2) allowed six hits and struck out four without issuing a walk. He has won his past five decisions.

Jakob Junis gave up two hits in two scoreless innings to earn his first save of the season. He struck out two and walked one.

The Brewers have won two of three from Colorado heading into Thursday’s finale of the four-game series.

Jake Cave, Brenton Doyle and Brendan Rodgers had two hits apiece for the Rockies, who have dropped 16 of their last 22 games. Colorado was 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position while being shut out for the ninth time this season.

Dakota Hudson (2-12) of the Rockies gave up three runs and seven hits over 4 2/3 innings while losing his fifth consecutive start. He struck out four and walked three.

Yelich hit his homer with two outs in the first inning, a 446-foot blast to right. It was his ninth homer of the season.

In the second, Sal Frelick walked with two and moved to second on a wild pitch. Jake Bauers followed with a single to right to make it 2-0.

Milwaukee added another run in the fifth as Turang and Contreras singled and Yelich walked to load the bases with one out. After Willy Adames struck out, Garrett Mitchell walked against Hudson to force home Turang.

The Rockies threatened with two outs in the bottom of the eighth when Charlie Blackmon walked and Rodgers singled against Junis. Ryan McMahon then hit a deep drive to left that Yelich caught in front of the 390 sign.

In the ninth, Junis induced Elias Diaz to ground to shortstop before allowing a double to Doyle. Junis then struck out Michael Toglia and Nolan Jones to end it.
