Brewers RHP Trevor Megill faints, placed on concussion list

Trevor Megill

Milwaukee right-hander Trevor Megill was placed on the seven-day concussion list Wednesday after a scary incident.

Megill had a bad case of food poisoning Saturday when the Brewers were on the road playing the New York Mets. On Monday, after the Brewers were back in Milwaukee, Megill fainted inside a store and sustained a head injury.

“He had food poisoning and ended up fainting in a phone store,” manager Pat Murphy told reporters prior to Wednesday’s game against the Minnesota Twins. “Fell on the ground and hit his head. When he came to, he called our people and let them know.

“We evaluated him the next morning, and he has a concussion. I guess he hadn’t had much in his system.”

Megill, 30, pitched a scoreless inning on both Friday and Saturday in his first two outings of the season.

Megill is in his fourth big league season and second with the Brewers. He is 6-5 with a 5.13 ERA in 100 career appearances (two starts) and also has pitched for the Chicago Cubs (2021) and Minnesota Twins (2022).

Milwaukee recalled right-hander JB Bukauskas from Triple-A Nashville to fill the roster opening.

Bukauskas, 27, is 2-2 with a 5.92 ERA in 27 career relief with the Arizona Diamondbacks (2021), Seattle Mariners (2023) and Brewers. He pitched six shutout innings in five appearances for Milwaukee last season.

“We have depth, so we’re going to keep going,” Murphy said. “But this one, I’m just nervous for (Megill). That’s scary. Could have been much worse.”
