The Milwaukee Brewers bunched six singles for five runs in the sixth inning to rally for a 7-3 victory over the visiting Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night in the opener of the two-game interleague series between division leaders.
After mustering two runs through five innings off starter Bailey Ober, Milwaukee scored five in the sixth off Dylan Floro (4-6) without an extra-base hit to erase a 3-2 deficit.
William Contreras and Carlos Santana greeted Floro with consecutive singles. After Willy Adames struck out, Mark Canha singled and Contreras scored to tie it 3-3. Consecutive RBI singles by Tyrone Taylor and Brice Turang found holes to make it 5-3. Anderson capped the small-ball rally with a two-run single for a 7-3 lead.
Bryse Wilson (5-0) got the win with two scoreless innings of relief. Hoby Milner and Trevor Megill each followed with a scoreless inning.
Milwaukee, which won its fourth straight, extended its lead in the NL Central to 3 1/2 games over the Cubs, who lost at Detroit 8-6. Minnesota, the only team in the AL Central with a winning record, is five games in front of Cleveland, which defeated the Dodgers 8-3.
Minnesota scored one in the fourth off starter Wade Miley to go up 3-2. Jordan Luplow doubled to open and Carlos Correa walked. Kyle Farmer’s one-out single to left scored Luplow.
Adames staked the Brewers to a 2-0 lead with a two-out homer in the first. Contreras drew a one-out walk. After Santana popped out, Adames sent a 1-2 pitch 397 feet to left-center for his team-leading 20th homer.
Christian Vazquez answered in the second for Minnesota. Farmer singled to center with two outs and Vazquez followed with his fourth homer.
