The St. Louis Cardinals scored twice in the 10th inning to recover for an 8-6 win to sweep a doubleheader and the three-game series against the host Chicago White Sox on Thursday.

JoJo Romero (3-3) tossed a scoreless ninth to earn the win. Andre Granillo did the same in the 10th for the save for St. Louis, which has won three in a row and four out of five.

The White Sox have lost eight straight.

St. Louis went ahead 8-6 in the top of the 10th off reliever Dan Altavilla (0-1). Automatic runner Jordan Walker scored on Nolan Arenado’s single but Arenado was tagged out at second trying to push for an extra base. Lars Nootbaar then connected for a homer to right-center field.

Trailing 6-1 in the bottom of the seventh, the White Sox rallied to tie it.

Lenyn Sosa and Austin Slater each singled off reliever John King, who was then replaced by Kyle Leahy.

Mike Tauchman’s two-out, pinch-hit single brought in Sosa and narrowed it to 6-2.

Chase Meidroth then drew a walk to load the bases and Andrew Benintendi belted a grand slam into the right field deck.

Down 1-0, the Cardinals took the lead in the third.

Victor Scott singled and stole second, Willson Contreras was hit by a pitch and Burleson launched a three-run home run into the Chicago bullpen in left field to put the Cardinals in front 3-1.

Arenado increased it to 4-1, knocking his 350th career homer just over the wall in left-center.

St. Louis added to it in the fourth. Nolan Gorman doubled and Pedro Pages followed with a single. Scott drew a one-out walk to load the bases and Contreras hit a two-out double to right field to drive all three home and make it 6-1, ending White Sox starter Mike Vasil’s outing.

In 3 2/3 innings, Vasil gave up six runs on seven hits, walked one and fanned six.

The White Sox took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Ryan Noda knocked a leadoff home run to left-center field.

Cardinals starter Michael McGreevy allowed one run on three hits and one walk with five strikeouts in five innings.
