Carson Kelly homers twice as Cubs blast Dodgers 16-0

Carson Kelly homered twice, singled and walked twice for the visiting Chicago Cubs in a 16-0 win against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the middle game of their three-game series on Saturday night.

Michael Busch singled, doubled twice, homered, drove in three runs and scored four times for the Cubs, who ended a two-game losing streak.

Miguel Amaya hit a two-run homer and Ian Happ contributed three hits, a walk and two runs scored for Chicago, which scored 14 runs over the final three innings.

Cubs right-hander Ben Brown (2-1) threw six shutout innings, allowing five hits with five strikeouts and no walks.

Dodgers starter Roki Sasaki (0-1) went five innings for the first time in the majors, allowing one run and four hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

Teoscar Hernandez had two hits for the Dodgers, who suffered their largest shutout loss since 1965, an 18-0 defeat to the Cincinnati Reds.

Busch led off the second inning with an opposite-field home run just over the fence in left-center field for a 1-0 lead.

Ben Casparius replaced Sasaki to start the sixth and gave up a leadoff double to Busch and an RBI single to Justin Turner to stretch the lead to 2-0.

Kelly homered to left off Casparius to lead off the seventh and make it 3-0.

Happ then walked and the Cubs followed with four straight singles from Kyle Tucker, Amaya, Busch and Dansby Swanson, the last three driving in runs, and then a sacrifice fly from Nico Hoerner made it 7-0.

Dodgers reliever Luis Garcia walked the leadoff batter in the eighth before surrendering a double to Happ, an RBI single to Tucker and a two-run homer by Amaya to make it 11-0.

Kelly hit a two-run homer off position player Miguel Rojas in the ninth to make it 13-0. Busch doubled in another run and Gage Workman plated two more with a double to make it 16-0.

Cubs designated hitter Seiya Suzuki left the game in the fifth inning because of wrist discomfort and was replaced by Amaya.
