Daylen Lile hit an RBI single in the ninth inning and then scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error, lifting the visiting Washington Nationals to a 5-4 win against the Philadelphia Phillies in the opener of a three-game series on Friday.

Phillies closer Jhoan Duran (6-5) started the ninth looking for his 23rd save. He surrendered a one-out double to Dylan Crews, and Lile then singled to left, tying the game 4-4.

Lile, who took second on the throw home, subsequently took off to steal third, and catcher J.T. Realmuto’s throw went into left field, scoring the runner for a 5-4 lead.

Nationals right-hander Cade Cavalli allowed three runs and seven hits in six innings. He struck out four and walked two in his fourth start of the season and fifth overall in the majors.

P.J. Poulin (1-1) pitched scoreless ball in the eighth and ninth innings to earn his first big-league win.

Riley Adams homered and Liles and Crews each had two hits and a run for the Nationals, who have won three in a row.

Bryson Stott (2-for-4) and Realmuto homered and Nick Castellanos had three hits and scored twice for the Phillies, who had won four in a row.

Phillies right-hander Taijuan Walker got off to a rough start before recovering and going five innings. He permitted three runs and three hits while striking out five and walking three.

Cavalli came out for the sixth inning with the Nationals leading 3-1 and he gave up a one-out double to Castellanos. Stott came up with two outs and slammed a fastball into the right field seats to tie it 3-3.

Shinnosuke Ogasawara started the seventh for the Nationals and struck out the first two batters before Realmuto ripped a full-count changeup over the fence in left-center field for a 4-3 lead.

Washington’s CJ Abrams singled with one out in the first and Josh Bell walked before Adams homered into the seats in right-center field for a 3-0 lead.

After stranding the bases loaded in their half of the first, the Phillies got a run back in the second. Castellanos led off with a single and went to third on a one-out single by Stott. Trea Turner then beat out a fielder’s choice, allowing Castellanos to score.
