The visiting Arizona Diamondbacks and Cincinnati Reds were tied 3-3 after six innings in the opener of their three-game series on Friday evening when the game was suspended due to rain.
The contest will resume at 2:10 p.m. ET on Saturday, and the regularly scheduled game will begin 40 minutes following the end of the suspended game, but not prior to the regularly scheduled time of 4:10 p.m ET.
Ketel Marte and Geraldo Perdomo hit back-to-back homers in the three-run third inning while Tim Tawa had two hits and a run for Arizona, which has won four in a row.
Diamondbacks left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez came off the 15-day injured list and threw five innings, allowing two runs and six hits while striking out three and walking none. He had been out since May 15 due to left shoulder inflammation.
TJ Friedl and Christian Encarnacion-Strand homered while Jose Trevino and Encarnacion-Strand had two hits apiece for the Reds, who have lost four of five.
Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo permitted three runs and five hits over six innings. He struck out four and also did not walk a batter.
Lodolo retired the first seven batters before Tawa beat out a slow roller to third with one out in the third. Lodolo got the second out of the inning before Marte pulled a 1-0 curveball deep over the fence in left for a 2-0 lead.
Perdomo then stroked the next pitch over the fence in center to make it 3-0.
Matt McLain singled to start the bottom of the third. One out later, Friedl pulled a two-run homer over the fence in right to cut the gap to 3-2.
As rain began to fall in the bottom of the fifth, Cincinnati’s Garrett Hampson doubled to left to lead off the inning. He was sacrificed to third, but the Reds couldn’t get him home as Santiago Espinal flied out to shallow right and Tyler Stephenson struck out to end the inning.
Cristian Mena took over for Rodriguez to start the sixth and Encarnacion-Strand belted a one-out solo home run to center to tie it 3-3.
Arizona catcher Gabriel Moreno left in the inning after taking a wild pitch off his bare hand.
Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz was not available for the game after attending his sister’s funeral in the Dominican Republic during the team’s off day on Thursday.
