The Arizona Diamondbacks are set to place Gold Glove catcher Gabriel Moreno on the injured list with a groin strain, manager Torey Lovullo said on MLB Network, while the club will select the contract of catcher Adrian Del Castillo from Triple-A Reno.
Moreno, 24, was injured while running out a ground-ball single during the second inning of the Diamondbacks’ 7-6, 10-inning road victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Monday. He is batting .262 with five home runs and 41 RBIs in 86 games this season.
Moreno helped Arizona to the World Series last season, winning the Gold Glove in the National League and hitting four home runs with 12 RBIs in 17 playoff games.
Del Castillo, 24, is poised to make his major league debut after batting .319 with 24 home runs and 70 RBIs in 100 games at Reno this season. The second-round draft pick in 2021 is a University of Miami product.
