Andy Pages capped a four-run 10th inning with a three-run home run Sunday afternoon, and the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers beat San Francisco 5-1 in the final game of longtime Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow’s career, earning their 100th win of the season
With Krukow working overtime as his postgame retirement ceremony was delayed, the Dodgers (100-62) took the lead in the 10th when Alex Call’s two-out double off the left field fence drove in automatic runner Miguel Rojas.
The Giants (65-97) then elected to walk Max Muncy, before Pages foiled that strategy by driving a pitch by Duncan Davitt (0-1) into the left field bleachers for a 5-1 lead on his 23rd home run of the season.
Alex Vesia (3-1), whose perfect ninth sent the game into the 10th, was credited with the win, which allows the Dodgers to take a three-game winning streak into their National League Division Series opener next Saturday.
Los Angeles’ bid for a third straight World Series title will begin at home against either the Atlanta Braves or Philadelphia Phillies in a best-of-5 series.
Both teams treated the finale as a bullpen game, then proceeded to exhaust much of their supply of arms.
The Giants’ only run came off Dodgers starter Jack Dreyer in the second when Scott Bandura’s two-out single plated Shay Whitcomb, who had walked and stolen second.
Dreyer was lifted after two innings, having allowed two hits. He struck out two.
Justin Wrobleski, Roki Sasaki, Edwin Diaz, Bobby Miller, Vesia and Phillips shut out the Giants on just three hits over the final eight innings.
The Dodgers took advantage of a Jonah Cox fielding error to draw even in the fourth. Muncy’s double then set up a sacrifice fly by Pages off Sam Hentges.
Carson Seymour got the start for the Giants and threw a 1-2-3 first inning.
In losing for the fifth straight time to end the season, San Francisco used 10 pitchers, none for more than five outs. A majority of the changes were made after manager Tony Vitello was ejected in the third for having disputed a no-swing call on the Dodgers’ Mookie Betts.
Muncy and Tommy Edman each had two hits for the Dodgers, who finished the regular season 6-1 in extra-inning games.
