Dodgers rally in 8th to take down Giants

Trea Turner delivered a go-ahead RBI double in the eighth inning and Max Muncy followed with a three-run home run as the Los Angeles Dodgers pulled out a 7-3 victory Wednesday afternoon against the San Francisco Giants.

Turner bounced a double off the left field wall against Giants right-hander Zack Littell (2-3) to score Austin Barnes from second base. Muncy’s third home run in two games came after Freddie Freeman followed Turner’s double with a walk.

Evan Phillips (6-3) did not give up a run over 1 1/3 innings to pick up the victory.

Giants rookie David Villar hit two home runs, including one off Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw. The Giants dropped the final two games of the series following a four-game winning streak.

The Dodgers missed out on a prime scoring chance in the second inning, loading the bases with nobody out. But Giants starter Alex Cobb got Chris Taylor on a forceout, Barnes on a strikeout and Mookie Betts on a fly ball.

The Giants struck first in the fifth inning when Villar hit a two-run home run to center field off a 2-2 slider from Kershaw.

After going 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position through the first four innings, the Dodgers broke through against Cobb in the fifth. Freeman and Muncy singled in advance of a three-run home run from Justin Turner, his 11th, for a 3-2 lead.

Justin Turner had two hits to extend his hitting streak to 16 games, tying his career high.

Villar was back at it again in the seventh inning for the Giants, tying the game at 3-all with another home run to center. Villar has four home runs on the season and three came in the just-completed series.

Muncy’s home run was his 19th of the season, while he also had his second consecutive three-hit game. Kershaw gave up two runs on five hits over six innings in his second start since returning from the injured list because of a back issue.

Dodgers left fielder Joey Gallo left the game in the top of the fourth inning with a right elbow contusion. Gallo was hit by a Cobb pitch in the second inning.
