Edgar Quero blooped a walk-off RBI single to center field in the 12th inning after the bullpen delivered six innings of one-run ball to lift the host Chicago White Sox to a 6-5 victory against the New York Yankees on Wednesday.

Jordan Hicks (1-1) escaped a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the 12th by striking out Ben Rice and retiring Ali Sanchez on a groundout to second.

Ryan Yarbrough (2-1) surrendered an unearned run in the bottom half of the frame.

New York pinch hitter Anthony Volpe drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the 11th inning. Camilo Doval was one out away from notching the save when Chicago tied the game. Automatic runner Munetaka Murakami scored from third base on an errant pickoff attempt from Sanchez, the Yankees’ catcher.

Paul Goldschmidt, Spencer Jones and Jose Caballero had two hits apiece for New York.

The Yankees went 3-for-16 with runners in scoring position and left 10 on base. The White Sox were 3-for-13 with men in scoring position while stranding eight.

Sam Antonacci and Murakami hit back-to-back home runs for the White Sox to tie the game at 4-all in the eighth.

The Yankees provided Cam Schlittler with four runs of support in the first inning. Goldschmidt grounded an RBI single to open the scoring before Jones reached White Sox starter Davis Martin for an opposite-field, three-run homer to left-center field.

Schlittler retired 18 of the first 19 White Sox hitters he faced but encountered trouble in the seventh. Andrew Benintendi delivered an RBI double to chase Schlittler from the game, but Fernando Cruz escaped further damage.

Schlittler scattered one run and two hits in 6 1/3 innings with one walk and eight strikeouts, lowering his American League-best ERA to 2.04.

Martin spaced four runs and five hits in six innings with two walks and six strikeouts.

After a scoreless top of the 10th, Chase Meidroth advanced to third on a wild pitch with no outs in the bottom of the inning but Chicago was unable to score.
