Eugenio Suarez hit a tiebreaking home run, his first since being re-acquired at the trade deadline, as the Seattle Mariners defeated the visiting Chicago White Sox 8-3 Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series.

Right-hander Bryan Woo (9-6) allowed one run on two hits over seven innings while Dominic Canzone and Josh Naylor also went deep for the Mariners, who improved to 4-1 on their 10-game homestand.

Lenyn Sosa, Luis Robert Jr. and Colson Montgomery homered for the White Sox, who had won 10 of their previous 15 games.

Sosa went deep with one out in the first inning, hitting a blast off the roof of the Mariners’ bullpen in left-center field to open the scoring.

The only other hit Woo allowed was a two-out double to right by Kyle Teel in the second inning.
Woo retired the final 16 batters he faced and matched a career-high with nine strikeouts.

Canzone tied the score with a 405-foot solo shot to right-center in the second off White Sox starter Davis Martin (3-9).

The Mariners took the lead in the fourth thanks to Naylor and Suarez, who came over in separate deals with Arizona. Naylor led off with a 107.5 mph one-hopper that White Sox second baseman Josh Rojas couldn’t handle. Suarez then deposited the next pitch, a cutter, into Edgar’s Cantina between the first and second decks down the left-field line to break the 1-1 tie.

It was Suarez’s 37th home run of the season, moving him into a tie for fourth-most in the majors this season.

The Mariners pulled away with three more runs in the sixth. Naylor drew a leadoff walk and stole second before Suarez also drew a base on balls. A double steal put runners at second and third for Jorge Polanco, who grounded a two-run single to center, ending Martin’s night. Reliever Tyler Gilbert walked Canzone before getting J.P. Crawford to ground into a fielder’s choice and rookie Cole Young to ground out to second, the latter of which plated Polanco.

Following a one-out single by Julio Rodriguez in the seventh, Naylor hit a two-run shot to right off Bryan Hudson to make it 8-1.

Robert and Montgomery went deep off Jackson Kowar with one out in the ninth to complete the scoring.
