Andres Chaparro had three hits, including two solo home runs, and the Nationals beat the New York Mets 6-4 on Sunday in Washington to end their season with a series win.
Will Dion (3-2) pitched two scoreless innings for the victory and Erik Tolman worked the ninth for his fifth save for Washington (77-85), which improved by 11 wins over 2025.
Francisco Lindor hit his 300th career homer and Ronny Mauricio smacked his third home run in two games for the Mets (74-88), who finished last in the National League East. Carson Benge ended his rookie season with three hits and an RBI.
Juan Soto, who left in the ninth inning Saturday after being hit on the right hand by a pitch, went 0-for-5.
Mets starter Sean Manaea (6-8) gave up five runs on seven hits over six innings.
Lindor led off the game with a single, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Benge single.
In the bottom half, Brady House walked and scored on a triple by CJ Abrams, his 106th RBI.
Luis Torrens walked with one out in the New York second, and Mauricio homered in his third straight at-bat to make it 3-1. Lindor followed with his 300th home run to become the first primary shortstop in major league history with 300 homers and 200 stolen bases.
Washington pulled within 4-2 in the bottom of the second when Harry Ford doubled with two outs and scored on a double by Nasim Nunez.
Chaparro homered leading off the bottom of the third to make it 4-3. Dylan Crews doubled with two outs and scored the tying run on a Jacob Young single.
Chaparro led off the fifth with his second homer and 13th of the season and the Nationals led 5-4.
With runners on first and second and two outs in the sixth, Riley Cornelio picked Mauricio off at second.
In the seventh, James Wood walked, went to third on a Chaparro single and scored on House’s single to make it 6-4.
Washington’s DJ Herz, in his second start since returning from Tommy John surgery, gave up four runs on six hits over three innings.
